Documentary release patterns
Documentaries on this calendar mix specialty theatrical opens, IMAX event bookings, and same-week or later streamer windows. Musk begins in Los Angeles and New York under Bleecker Street with HBO Documentary Films involvement. Everest: The Other Side uses National Geographic's limited/IMAX path. Trafalgar's music docs book designated screens for short engagements.
Netflix remains a major documentary destination in this window: Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald, Ava DuVernay's 14th (Netflix after a limited open), and other timed drops on Metacritic's schedule. PBS continues series documentary with titles such as NOVA: Evolution per Den of Geek.
Awards-season documentaries often announce city-by-city expansions after opening weekend. Treat first-city openings as the start of a platform, not a guarantee of national saturation. Sony Pictures Classics' Rehearsals for a Revolution is an example of that specialty pattern.
